The Hong Kong government offers financial support and a variety of services to caregivers (caregivers aged 65 and over). Today's short series lists some of the Hong Kong government's current measures for everyone to read.
Financial support
- Maintenance grant for carers from low-income families
- Permanent introduction of vouchers for community care services for the elderly
Home support services
- Services include personal care/basic care/special care, 24-hour emergency assistance, respite service, household cleaning service, meal service, companion service and carer support, etc.
Community care and support services
- Outreach services and community networks that facilitate access to cared-for and vulnerable older people and their carers
- Services offered include information and advice services, group activities and skills training, self-help groups
- Services offered by Neighbourhood Centres for the Elderly include education and development activities, provision of resources and information about services, food services and caregiver support
Respite service
- Subsidised elderly care homes and contract homes, private elderly care homes participating in the Enhanced Bought Place Scheme and subsidised day care facilities for the elderly providing places for respite services for the elderly
These measures are designed to support working carers to provide good quality care while improving the quality of life of carers. However, the application process and requirements are different for each policy and measure, so it is better to check the details on the government website before applying.
