How can companies implement in-service caregiver-friendly policies?

Companies play an important role in helping working caregivers improve their lives. Companies can promote work-life balance by offering a friendly working environment and appropriate measures for working caregivers. Today we present four friendly policies to help you understand the role and functions of the company.

 Set an appropriate workload
Give employees a reasonable amount of time and workload so that they have enough time to prepare and avoid working overtime or taking work home due to lack of time.

 Working hours
Currently, Hong Kong has the fifth highest number of working hours in the world. Excessive working hours make it difficult for employees to take time for themselves or their families. Companies should avoid asking their employees to work longer than contractually agreed and not let them work at the expense of their personal or family time.

 Simple request for leave
When caregivers take leave, such as unpaid leave or annual leave, to care for housing organisations hope to simplify the complexity by giving caregivers space and time off on the premise of an emergency. As for rest leave, there is no express provision in Hong Kong laws requiring employers to grant rest leave. Companies should assist their employees in arranging leave days to avoid cumbersome application procedures.

Arrange staff work according to individual circumstances
In some cases, it may be necessary for working carers to spend more time caring for or accompanying the person being cared for. Companies should be considerate of employees and be flexible in their working arrangements on a case-by-case basis, e.g. working from home or flexible working hours to allow employees to balance work and family life.
